Article by Giorgos Kallis, Susan Paulson, Giacomo D’Alisa and Federico Demaria

The crisis triggered by the Coronavirus has already exposed many weaknesses of our growth-obsessed capitalist economy, more than ever it becomes apparent, that we must strive for a deep transformation of our societies by design – otherwise it happens by disaster. That’s why over 1100 experts and over 70 organisations have signed this open letter that was, among others, shaped by organisers of the Vienna 2020 Degrowth conference. It outlines five principles for the recovery of our economy in order to build a more just and sustainable society and prevent further crises.
